It’s important for me to keep the inspiration levels topped up so I’ve indulged in a bit of time out in the real world recently. Two great creative industry events came up a week apart, so I went to both.
The first was Glug Brum ‘Craft & Graft’ hosted by WeAreGoodness in the cool railway arches of Digbeth. I couldn’t help but snap a couple of street art pics on my way to and from the venue.
At Glug there were ‘Art Happenings’ like live portraits and letterpress printing to enjoy before the speakers began. My favourite was Aidan Saunders and his travelling Print Wagon - what a super awesome idea!
The speakers were all kinds of fab too:
First up were Isabel + Helen, they make interactive installations and have some impressive including Selfridges, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Tate Modern. They also had a fun game called Pig or Wig, reinforcing my own opinion that Guinea pigs look like toupees.
Next was Emily Forgot, a graphic artist whose work I was sort of familiar with but her talk was really inspiring. She embraces the surreal world of researching on the internet and lets what she finds feed into her work without it being a direct copy.
Then we had the highly entertaining and talented Supermundane, who showed us some amazing graphic design & typography and also treated us to some hilarious songs and slides. He’s not that Rob Lowe and the Kerning song was a type geek’s dream.
I also snagged some exciting freebies – a Supermundane screen print and some postcards that made me v happy.
